Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Presidential candidate (capres) Anies Baswedan also highlighted the rise of online loan platforms (pinjol) which ensnare Indonesian citizens.
Many Indonesian citizens end up failing to pay because they are tempted and addicted to borrowing. Moreover, there are hundreds of illegal loans circulating and are being swept up by the Indonesian government.
“Getting stuck in debt is a reality on the ground,” said Anies at the 100 Indonesian Economists Workshop organized by INDEF and CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (8/11/2023).
According to Anies, the role of savings and loan cooperatives, which used to be the mainstay of emergency fund loans for the community, must be restored.
“We need to return cooperatives to one of the important actors,” he said.
One of Anies’ focuses in his presentation was poverty alleviation. For this reason, he encourages the creation of quality jobs.
To achieve this, said Anies, it is necessary to encourage business sectors that absorb a lot of labor. Apart from that, there must be an improvement in human quality in terms of education and household nutrition.
If people need emergency funds for daily needs, Anies encourages cooperatives to be resurrected. According to him, the pinjol phenomenon must be shifted to return to cooperatives.
