Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Most areas in Indonesia are being hit by El Nino, which is a climate phenomenon reducing rainfall and triggering long droughts. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has carried out monitoring throughout the country to monitor the areas worst hit by drought. From this observation, BMKG released a list of areas with the longest lack of rain until mid-October 2023.

Based on climate monitoring through 4093 rain observation posts in Indonesia, as many as 870 locations experienced the most extreme conditions on days without rain. According to BMKG, these 870 locations have not experienced rain for more than 60 days or two months.

In fact, under normal conditions, most parts of Indonesia should have entered the rainy season this October.

BMKG revealed that DKI Jakarta is a province where all of its municipalities have never had rain in the last three months.
