Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in his public lecture at Stanford University gave a striking message regarding funding for the energy transition. According to him, many developed countries provide debt-oriented funding.

According to Jokowi, funding and technology transfer are big challenges in terms of the energy transition. Where to produce clean energy requires very large investments and technology transfer.

“This is a challenge and often makes things difficult for developing countries,” said Jokowi while giving a public lecture at Stanford University, United States, (15/11/2023) local time.

For example, Indonesia wants to ensure that the energy transition can produce green electricity that is affordable for the public.

However, according to Jokowi, funding for climate change should be more constructive and not in the form of debt which places a burden on poor and developing countries.

“However, we know that up to now, climate funding is still business as usual. It is still like commercial banks, even though it should be more constructive, not in the form of debt which only adds to the burden on poor and developing countries,” said Jokowi.

On that occasion, Jokowi firmly conveyed Indonesia’s commitment to the energy transition. He revealed that the country had reduced emissions by 91.5 million tons and reduced the rate of deforestation until 2022 to reach 104,000 hectares. Including rehabilitation of 77 thousand hectares of forest area, and restoration of 34,000 hectares of mangrove forests within one year.

It also has green energy potential reaching 3,600 GW from solar, river, wind, geothermal, wave and bio energy. Like the largest floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in Southeast Asia at Cirata Reservoir, West Java which was just inaugurated last week.
