Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chinese netizens were shocked by the luxurious wedding which cost up to 210 million yuan or around IDR 456.3 billion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 2,173/yuan). Not only that, the bride also wore 100 gold bracelets during her wedding.

Launching from South China Morning Postthe Ye Family wedding party which took place in Putian, Fujian Province, China in early February 2024 caused various reactions from netizens, such as envy and admiration on social media.

Based on photos circulating on social media, the wedding party was held in a magnificent ballroom belonging to the groom’s family. The entire room is decorated with ornaments of a pair of wooden dragons and a phoenix which symbolize good luck.


Not only that, the wedding party area was also decorated with small bridges and pavilions in traditional Chinese style, as well as large red lanterns. In fact, the crazy rich from China were reportedly willing to drain a giant fish pond for a year to build a luxurious stage.

Apart from photos of the wedding party area, social media in China was also shocked by a photo of the bride wearing a necklace made of 100 gold bracelets put together. In the photo, the bride appears to be walking slightly bent due to the weight of the 100 bracelets.

Not only was the wedding area luxurious, guests were also treated to luxurious dishes, such as king crab, lobster, shark fin soup, swallow’s nest, and even Australian abalone. Apart from that, each table was also served a bottle of luxury liquor, Kweichow Moutai, with a total bill of 1.5 million yuan or around IDR 3.25 billion.

“I felt like I was attending a wedding of a rich noble family in ancient China,” said one of the guests, quoted Monday (19/2/2024).

According to information circulating, the couple who got married and held a luxurious party were Ye Dingfeng and Yang Hanying. Ye Dingfeng is the son of the big boss of China’s leading gold jewelry retailer, Ye Gouchun.

Meanwhile, Yang is the daughter of a manager for Ye Gouchun’s company named Lao Feng Xiang.

However, this luxurious wedding caused controversy among Chinese society. Because, this party was held when the Chinese authorities called on the public to “boycott” luxury events.

Reportedly, many local governments are advising their people to save money and hold mass weddings for dozens or even hundreds of couples.
