Deal! TikTok Shop Joins Tokopedia at RI Tech – 2 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – TikTok’s parent, ByteDance, has reportedly agreed to collaborate with GoTo to open e-commerce services in Indonesia.

This news confirms various previous information which stated that the TikTok Shop would reopen in RI by collaborating with local players.

TikTok has agreed to join Tokopedia, which is GoTo’s e-commerce business unit. This step is to comply with the regulations in force in Indonesia.

TikTok and GoTo are scheduled to announce this collaboration next week, according to inside sources, quoted from YahooFinance, Tuesday (5/12/2023).

Full details of the collaboration have not yet been announced. The investment value and form of technical collaboration between the two have not yet been formally announced.

ByteDance’s investment in Tokopedia shows the importance of Indonesia as an e-commerce market for TikTok Shop. It is known that the TikTok Shop closed several months ago due to regulations from the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) which prohibit social media from having a dual role as e-commerce.

By joining Tokopedia, TikTok Shop can resume operations in Indonesia. These services will compete with other players.

Representatives for TikTok and Goto declined to comment.
