Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was found guilty by a jury in court. The bankrupt crypto dealer could serve 115 years in prison.

Bankman-Fried or SBF, who is now 31 years old, pleaded not guilty before the judge and jury. Despite this, the jury found him guilty of seven crimes including electronic transaction fraud and money laundering.

All of the crimes charged against SBF are related to the FTX exchange he founded alongside crypto trading firm Alameda Research.

According to CNBC International, The jury didn’t take long to find SBF guilty.

The SBF trial has been going on since early October and featured testimony from SBF’s closest friends who are also high-ranking officials at FTX and Alameda Research.

The prosecution’s key witnesses were Caroline Ellison, CEO of Alameda Research and former boyfriend of SBF, and Gary Wang, Bankman-Fried’s childhood friend and co-founder of FTX. Ellison and Wang have pleaded guilty and are assisting prosecutors in the lawsuit against Bankman-Fried.

The jury decided that Bankman-Fried intentionally committed a criminal act in using FTX customer funds and then using them to buy luxury property, invest in other startups, pay sponsors, political donations, and cover losses in Alameda.

After being found guilty by the jury, SBF is now waiting for the judge’s decision regarding punishment.
