Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Not long ago, Indosat was reported to be exploring cooperation with satellite-based internet provider, OneWeb. IOH Director & Chief Business Officer Muhammad Buldansyah opened his voice regarding this matter.
“We are in talks with OneWeb, but it is still just a discussion and exploration,” said Danny, in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/11/2023).
“We’ll see later, just for discussion,” he added.
OneWeb is an internet provider that operates in low Earth orbit (LEO). The same internet network is also provided by Starlink, which is owned by SpaceX. In Indonesia itself, OneWeb collaborates with PT Dwi Tunggal Putra.
Danny explained that the use of satellites is good for island countries like Indonesia. The reach can be wider than ordinary infrastructure.
When asked why he only met with OneWeb, Danny said discussions with all parties. “We discussed it with everyone[…]”Just one has appeared,” he said.
Information about the meeting between Indosat and OneWeb was revealed by Indosat CEO Vikram Sinha. On Linkedin, he showed off photos at OneWeb headquarters.
“We will work together with a bigger goal, namely providing connections for every Indonesian citizen, especially those on the outer islands,” said Vikram.
Vikram ensures that he opens cooperation with all satellite companies. That way, his party can provide the best experience for the community.
There are a number of focuses for cooperation with satellite companies. One of them is providing the best data services in remote areas.
Apart from that, it also helps industries located in remote areas that need an internet connection. For example, from the fisheries and plantation sectors.
“This satellite imaging can help with the services provided by the satellite provider, for exploration,” said Vikram.
