Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv Saturday (9/12/2023) demanding the release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. It was noted that several hostages released during the ceasefire also spoke via video about the difficult conditions of their detention.

Protesters waved flags and carried photos of Israelis still in Gaza. One of the signs read: “They trust us to get them out of hell.”

Of the approximately 240 people taken hostage by Hamas during the massive attack on October 7 that sparked the war in Gaza, 137 people remain hostage after the others were returned during the ceasefire. Some of them have been declared dead in absentia by Israeli authorities.

Margalit Moses, 77, in a video testimony told how she tried to take a machine that helps her breathe at night, but her kidnappers took it. Instead he was told to sit down and lean his head against the wall.

“I can breathe like that, but I can’t fall asleep,” he was quoted as saying by Channel News Asia.

Adina Moshe, 72, said her close friends were abandoned when she was released during the ceasefire after 49 days in Gaza. His friends were elderly, he said, with health problems and no access to medicine.

“The food situation there got worse; in the end we only ate rice,” he said.

More than 100 hostages were freed in a week-long ceasefire that ended on December 1. Since then fighting has resumed and Israel has launched its military attack against Hamas in Gaza.

Two siblings, Maya and Itay Regev, aged 21 and 18, were also among those released.

“Every day feels like hell,” Maya said. “Unreal fear. Can’t sleep at night. Crazy longing and lack of knowledge (of what happened) is really scary.”
