Is it true that frequent urination is a sign that your body is burning fat? Lifestyle – 2 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Drinking more water is one common strategy used to encourage better body metabolism. Some people believe that increased urinary frequency is a sign of weight loss, but there are also those who think that this is just a myth.

So how does diet affect the way the urinary tract works in the body?

Launch Healthline, the urinary tract is responsible for removing excess fluid and waste from the body. This process involves several organs, including the kidneys, bladder, urethra, and ureters.

The kidneys are responsible for filtering blood to produce urine, which is transported to the bladder through thin muscular tubes called ureters. The bladder is a hollow organ that slowly expands as it fills with urine. It is estimated that the bladder can hold up to 2 cups (475 mL) of urine.

As your bladder begins to fill, it sends signals to your brain indicating that it is time to urinate. Finally, urine is excreted from the body through the urethra by relaxing the internal and external sphincters, which are the muscles that control the flow of urine.

On average, most people excrete around 800-2,000 mL of urine per day.

Urination and weight gain

Urination plays an important role in fat metabolism. Because, when you consume fewer calories than your body needs, fat stores throughout the body will be broken down and used for energy.

The byproducts of this process are then excreted from the body through urine, sweat, feces, and the lungs.

Urination can also cause other small changes in body weight.

For example, when you drink a lot of water, you may notice that the number on the scale increases slightly. On the other hand, when urinating, it decreases slightly.

These fluctuations are normal, as research shows that increasing daily water intake is associated with higher urine output. Therefore, the amount of weight you temporarily gain or lose throughout the day from fluid intake depends on how much fluid you drink.

However, keep in mind that weight gain from drinking water is temporary, and you will lose weight again after you urinate.

Can urinating more often help you lose weight?

Research shows that drinking more water may be beneficial for weight loss. However, this is not necessarily caused by increased urination.

Conversely, research shows that drinking water before meals can help increase feelings of fullness and reduce appetite and food intake. Apart from this, changing your diet or exercising regularly is highly recommended for long-term weight loss.

Additionally, keep in mind that consuming certain beverages, including sugary drinks such as soda, sweet tea, and sports drinks, can increase calorie intake and lead to weight gain.

In fact, some studies show that drinking more water can temporarily increase metabolism and reduce appetite. However, increasing water intake to increase urination will not lead to lasting weight loss.
