Joe Biden Urges, Total Block on China Accelerated Tech – 1 hour ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chip designer Nvidia said the American government’s export restrictions on sales of high-end AI chips to China will come into effect on Monday (30/10) next week. The schedule is ahead of what was previously determined.

The restrictions were supposed to go into effect 30 days from Oct. 17 when the Biden administration announced steps to halt chip access to several countries. These include China, Iran and Russia.

Quoting Reuters, Wednesday (25/10/2023), Nvidia does not expect any short-term impact on its revenue from this step. However, it did not say why the US government accelerated its entry into force.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which was also affected by the restrictions, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Reuterswhile the US Department of Commerce declined to comment.

Intel, which started selling Gaudi 2 chips in China in July, said it was reviewing the regulations and assessing the potential impact.

The restrictions will prohibit the export of modified Nvidia A800 and H800 advanced AI chips. The two chips were designed specifically for the Chinese market to comply with previously applicable export regulations. Nvidia A100, H100 and L40S chips are also affected by the restrictions.
