Therefore, as soon as Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31/2023 comes in regarding trade in goods from abroad, Lazada automatically immediately complies with these provisions.

“We ensure that there are no import sellers and this closure will not have a significant impact because the portion of imported sellers at Lazada Indonesia is less than 1%,” explained Sophisticated at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday (27/10/2023).

In fact, according to Sophisticated, in the past three weeks at least transactions at Lazada have actually increased because the company says that local sellers are its strength.

“In the future, we will continue to innovate, especially since we are sure that competition will be tight. However, we assure that of course the sellers and buyers will benefit,” concluded Gigih.

For your information, this year the government published Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No 31/2023 concerning Business Licensing, Advertising, Guidance and Supervision of Business Actors in Trading Through Electronic Systems. This Minister of Trade Regulation was promulgated and will come into effect on September 26 2023.

As for article 66 of the new Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31/2023, it has been stipulated that Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 50/2020 concerning Provisions for Business Licensing, Advertising, Guidance and Supervision of Business Actors in Trading Through Electronic Systems (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia of 2020 Number 498), is revoked and declared no longer valid.

Previously, the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan said that Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31/2023 was the President’s mandate to the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM) to increase the protection of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and business actors within country.
