Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman asked the Inspectorate General (Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture) to immediately coordinate with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to oversee the course of agricultural development. One thing that must be done is to place several KPK employees with offices in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Amran did this when he served as Minister of Agriculture for the 2014-2019 period, in order to strengthen integrity and prevent Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism (KKN).

“I ask that tomorrow there will be a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) staff with an office at the Ministry of Agriculture to supervise the progress of agricultural development,” said Amran at his office, Ragunan Area, Jakarta, Thursday (26/10/2023).

Amran believes that KPK supervision is very important so that no more Ministry of Agriculture employees are caught in criminal acts and harm many people, especially Indonesian farmers. He wants the Ministry of Agriculture to return to being a dignified institution and gaining public trust.

“I think this is very important because the public must understand the task of developing agriculture. Therefore, once again I hope that tomorrow there will be a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with an office in the Ministry of Agriculture,” he said.

Apart from that, Amran has also ensured that coordination between units within the Ministry of Agriculture is running well, and he has also asked his staff to work optimally in increasing the production of rice and corn as national strategic commodities.

“Firstly, we have carried out consolidation to make agriculture move quickly and work optimally. Then our program focuses on rice and corn commodities. Therefore I ask for acceleration so that in the near future we can be self-sufficient,” he said.

The most important thing now, he continued, is to build solidarity and lay a strong foundation so that in the future Indonesia will be able to accelerate agricultural development. Amran wants self-sufficiency to be achieved in all commodities, including livestock, sugar, rice, corn and other strategic commodities.

“Today we are laying the foundation, so that in the coming years we can maximize the existing three potentials. So once again, we have to lay the foundation well to make the work of the next minister easier,” he explained.
