Mysterious Huawei cellphone sells well, iPhone 15 is not in demand Tech – 13 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The mysterious and controversial cellphone, Huawei Mate 60 Pro, sold 1.6 million units within 6 weeks of being available on the market.

Of the total sales figures, 400 thousand units were sold out in the last 2 weeks. This period coincides with the launch of the iPhone 15 series from Apple, according to research firm Counterpoint, quoted from ReutersFriday (20/10/2023).

In the first 17 days on sale, sales of the iPhone 15 were recorded to have decreased by 4.5% compared to the iPhone 14 released last year.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro, which is selling well on the market, has made the Chinese manufacturer return to first place in its hometown. Apple’s position, which for years has been the ruler of HP in China, has finally fallen to 2nd place.

Weak demand for the iPhone 15 in China is affecting global sales. Counterpoint data shows that sales of Apple cellphones fell 9% in Q3 2023 year-on-year (YoY).

It is known that Huawei made a surprise by launching the flagship HP Mate 60 Pro at the end of last August. This cellphone supports the 5G network and has made the United States (US) authorities fire.

Joe Biden’s administration accused Huawei of violating trade sanctions and secretly using technology from the US to develop a 5G chip for the Mate 60 Pro.

After investigation, it turned out that the chip was designed by Huawei’s internal division and was produced by local manufacturer SMIC.

Since its launch in China, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro has received a warm welcome from local residents. This cellphone even sold out and was only available again in mid-September.

In total, the global HP market is still sluggish with a decline of 8% in Q3 2023 YoY. Huawei, Honor and Transsion Group are the brands that recorded positive growth. Meanwhile, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, still recorded minus growth.
