Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Nepal, as a country with the Himalayan mountains standing tall there, was hit by an earthquake on Friday (3/11/2023) which killed 128 victims. This earthquake is said to be the deadliest since the 2015 earthquake.
Entire cities, centuries-old temples and other historical sites were reduced to rubble, with more than a million homes destroyed.
The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale (SR), according to the National Seismological Center of Nepal, is estimated to have caused economic losses of US$ 6 billion or the equivalent of IDR 93.5 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 15,589 per US$).
“Many houses collapsed, many others cracked. Thousands of residents spent the whole night in the open and cold because they were too afraid to go into their cracked houses when the aftershocks hit. I myself couldn’t go in,” said Jajarkot district official Harish Chandra Sharma , reported by Reuters, Saturday (4/11/2023).

1. April and May 2015
The worst earthquake in Nepal’s history occurred four minutes before noon on April 25, 2015. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8 and was followed by a second earthquake 17 days later, killing a total of 9,000 people.
The deadliest earthquake ever to hit the country, in 1934, killed at least 8,519 people in Nepal, as well as thousands more in India.

An earthquake measuring 6 magnitude hit Nepal and the vibrations caused by the earthquake were felt as far away as the capital, Kathmandu.
3. November 9, 2022
An earthquake in western Nepal killed at least six villagers, four of whom were children. Meanwhile the earthquake destroyed houses made of mud and bricks in remote communities living at the foot of the Himalayas.
4. November 12, 2022
A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, shaking houses in the Himalayan nation and India.
5. January 24, 2023
At least one person was killed and more than 20 housing units were damaged in a remote district of Nepal after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake. The vibrations were felt as far away as New Delhi.
6. October 3, 2023
Two earthquakes rocked western Nepal, injuring 17 people, damaging homes and triggering landslides that blocked major highways. Landslides following earthquakes measuring 6.3 and 5.3 on the Richter scale in Bajhang district, which borders India, blocked roads to the southern plains.
7. November 3, 2023
At least 128 people died and dozens were injured when a strong earthquake hit the western region of Jajarkot. Houses in the area collapsed and buildings in the capital New Delhi in neighboring India shook.
