Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – During the campaign period, it was not only Prabowo Subianto who rose to fame, but also his aide, Major Teddy. The camera’s spotlight on Teddy often makes many people misfocus. Many call him handsome and dashing, although that is actually subjective.

However, history records that Major Teddy is not the first aide to the Minister of Defense who managed to steal people’s attention thanks to his good looks. Previously there was Pierre Tendean who had the same fate.

Tendean is an Army officer with the rank of First Lieutenant (Lettu). Physically, he was much different from other soldiers. Because, Tendean is of Caucasian descent, more precisely French, which he inherited from his mother. Apart from that, he is also athletic.

Smart, athletic and handsome make Tendean the center of attention. In an autobiography entitled Pierre Tendean (1983) explained that while pursuing military education, many teenage girls often sought attention from Tendean.

The goal, of course, is so that they can interact with the cadets. In fact, he was also nicknamed Robert Wagner, one of the most famous American actors, because he was so handsome.

Attention to the man who was born on February 21 1939 then reached its peak when he was assigned as an aide to the Minister of Defense, AH Nasution, in April 1965. As an aide, Tendean certainly went with him wherever Nasution went. At this point, he became a magnet more than his superiors.

Nasution himself testified in a memoir entitled Fulfilling the Call of Duty Volume 6 (1987), if at a seminar or event many eyes would look at Tendean, not at him. In fact, crowds of people often surround Tendean during events. Nasution also understood and was not angry.

Even though he is successful in getting people’s attention, Tendean is not flirtatious with women. After all, at that time he already had a girlfriend named Rukmini Chaimin, a woman from Medan. The two met in 1963 and planned to marry in November 1965.

Unfortunately, the marriage never took place. Two months before the wedding, a major storm occurred that changed Tendean’s life and the course of the country’s history.

On October 1 1965, a group of unknown armed forces looking for Nasution attacked the Minister of Defense’s house. As an adjutant, Tendean put up resistance with weapons, but was outnumbered. The group mistook Tendean for Nasution. He was taken to Lubang Buaya, without knowing it wasn’t Nasution.

It was in Lubang Buaya that his life ended. It is known that Tendean was shot and his body was thrown into a well. Later, this dark event became known as the 30 September Movement which not only made Tendean a victim, but also 6 other generals.

After his death, Tendean was promoted to captain. He was also awarded Hero of the Revolution. Until now, his name is always known because it has been immortalized as the name of many streets in various cities.
