Reasons Why Singapore’s Covid Cases Are Rising Crazy, Be Alert! Tech – 11 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Over the past year, Covid-19 cases have begun to subside. In fact, the policy of using masks is no longer mandatory in Indonesia.

However, this does not mean that the threat of Covid-19 has completely disappeared. In the period 19-25 November 2023, Covid-19 cases rose like crazy in Singapore.

The figure has doubled to 22,094 cases.

According to the local Ministry of Health, a possible factor is the year-end travel season. Reduced population immunity could also be a factor in the surge in Covid-19 cases in Singapore.

Even though there was an increase in cases, it was not followed by a spike in the number of hospitalizations due to Covid-19. The local Ministry of Health reminded the public to continue vaccination.

“Average daily hospitalization and ICU cases remain stable,” local authorities said.

In Singapore itself, the EG.5 or HK.3 sub-lineage remains the main subvariant. But there is no indication this makes the disease more contagious or more severe.

This increase in cases occurred six months after WHO announced the end of the Covid-19 pandemic which had occurred for the last three years. The decision announced last May was taken after a meeting of the WHO Emergency Committee.

Meanwhile, several countries have already announced the end of the pandemic. Including the United States (US) and the European Union which announced April 2022.

In Indonesia, President Joko Widodo announced the pandemic ended last June. The decision was taken because the daily case number was approaching 0 and almost the entire community was considered to have strong immunity.

Meanwhile, Singapore confirmed there was no increase in severe respiratory illnesses. Including cases that attack children.

In recent times there has been a reported spike in pneumonia cases in China. Many children get influenza and common bacterial infections including mycoplasma pneumonia.
