Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian national team managed to get one point in the U-17 World Cup. This result was obtained after the Garuda Asia squad drew 1-1 with Ecuador in the first Group A match which was held at Gelora Bung Tomo, Surabaya, Friday (10/11/2023).

Due to this result, the Minister of BUMN who is also the General Chair of PSSI, Erick Thohir, appreciated the struggle of the Bima Sakti troops. According to Erick, the spirit of Heroes’ Day has become an inspiration for the players.

“Thank God, on Heroes’ Day and the stadium bearing the name of Bung Tomo, the children showed the spirit of not wanting to lose. This historic day, thank God, we achieved a historic result for Indonesian football, winning its first point in the world cup,” said Erick after the match to Detik.com.

Erick assessed that the support of the national team supporters, including President Jokowi who was present in person, had fueled the enthusiasm of the Indonesian U-17 National Team players. He said that this support enabled the national team to perform well in matches that were highlighted and witnessed by world football figures.

“Thank you for the support of the supporters, including President Jokowi, who has become the 12th player for the national team. Today we have proven to the world that Indonesia can do it! Once again, thank you,” he added.

Previously, in that match, Indonesia U-17 took a 1-0 lead through a goal scored by Arkhan Kaka in the 22nd minute.

However, Indonesia’s lead only lasted for six minutes. After that, Ecuador equalized 1-1 through Allen Obando’s header from a cross.
