Sugar Prices Continue to Break Records, Today Reached IDR 15,600/Kg News – 14 minutes ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Consumable sugar prices were observed to continue their increase to a new highest price level today, Monday (23/10/2023). The current average retail price has also exceeded the highest average retail price in 2022 which was recorded at IDR 14,760 per kg, which was reported to occur in May 2022.

The Agency’s Price Panel noted that the price of consumed sugar today (data at 15.38 WIB) increased by IDR 30 to IDR 15,630 per kg. A week ago, October 16 2023, the price was still at IDR 15,520 per kg. This is the national daily average price at the retail trader level.

The price of sugar has been recorded to continue to rise since August 2023, at which time it was still recorded at IDR 14,700 per kg.


In fact, the price of sugar has fallen to IDR 12,240 per kg in November 2022. This is the lowest level after sugar prices repeatedly set records in March-June 2022. Then prices will move down starting in July 2022.

In the 2023 Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, Deputy for Distribution Statistics and Services at the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Pudji Ismartini revealed that granulated sugar is a commodity that influences changes in the price development index (IPH) until the third week of October 2023.

BPS noted that up to the third week of October 2023, as many as 327 districts/cities in Indonesia experienced an increase in the price of consumer sugar (granulated sugar).

“The average price of granulated sugar in the third week of October 2023 is IDR 15,870 per kg. The highest price of granulated sugar is in Papua at IDR 21,165 per kg and the lowest is on the island of Java at IDR 14,893 per kg,” he said in a video broadcast on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ YouTube account, Monday (23/10/2023).
