Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Titiek Soeharto is being discussed again. This is after presidential candidate number 02 Prabowo Subianto became the winner in the 2024 Election quick count from various survey institutions. Prabowo and Titiek were previously married in 1983.

Siti Hediati Harjadi or Titiek was born in Semarang, April 14 1959, as the 4th child of Suharto and Siti Hartinah. Since childhood, Titiek lived well because his father worked as a soldier.

When he was born, his father still held the rank of colonel. However, in less than 10 years, his rank and position shot up. Everyone knows that in 1966 his father became a Four Star General and the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Being the son of a general and president makes Titiek’s life more than enough. Regarding education, he is recorded as having studied at every level of education, including being a student at the UI Faculty of Economics. While at UI he was known to be friends with Agus Martowardojo, a figure who would later become Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2013-2018 period.

“Agus was invited by his college friend, Siti Hediati or Titiek Soeharto, to join Maharani Holding,” he said in his biography entitled Agus Martowardojo: Bringer of Change (2019).

Interestingly, Titiek’s college days were recorded by the lecturer who would later become his father-in-law, Soemitro Djojohadikusumo. In the biography Traces of Resistance Begawan Pejuang (2000), Soemitro said that Titiek preferred to sit at the back of the class. Apart from that, he also repeated courses taught by Soemitro.

On this basis, when Titiek was first introduced as Prabowo’s girlfriend, Soemitro said, “She looks familiar.” From this meeting, the two of them then developed a further relationship. Prabowo, 32, and Titiek, 24, married in 1983.

After the marriage, Titiek practically became a wife and housewife. She had forgotten about studying at UI because she was busy with military wife activities. This busyness became even more intense after he was blessed with children in 1984. Even though he became busier, Titiek still managed to graduate from college as much as possible.

After fulfilling the graduation requirements, such as grades and thesis, Titiek Soeharto finally earned a bachelor’s degree in 1985. As explained by Siti Hartinah Soeharto (1992), he became the first graduate in the Soeharto family when his siblings always failed to graduate from college.

Joe Studwell in Asian Godfathers: Revealing the Affairs of Businessmen and Rulers (2009) said that Titiek had a cement business with his brother-in-law, Hashim, in 1988. He also had shares in his brother’s business, Tutut. Not only that, Titiek is also active in philanthropic activities as an administrator of several family-owned foundations.

Everything was going smoothly, before the storm occurred in 1998. In that year, Titiek’s life began to be different. The father is no longer president. Likewise, her relationship with her husband also ended.

After that, apart from focusing on business, Titiek also started politics. During the reform period, he was recorded as having been part of the management of the Golkar Party around 2004. Then he also founded a new party with his brothers called the Berkarya Party in 2018-2019. Now, he is an active member of the Gerindra Party and is running for office
