Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A message has been spread warning that there is a new fraud mode. Fraudsters no longer use APKs, but rather PDF files with a capital P.

The following is the message that was distributed: Scam: New model, don’t use APK anymore. Now I use PDF. So what you should avoid is PDFs with a capital P. Hopefully it’s useful, guys.

However, it turns out that this message does not need users to worry. Because, security expert from Akuncom, Alfons Tanujaya, called the message misinformation.

Alfons explained that there is no difference between files, whether upper or lower case. There is no influence of these letters on Android even though the name is changed.

“This is misinformation. So actually PDF whether the P is large or small has no effect on Android,” said Alfons in his statement to CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (8/11/2023).

“When the APK is renamed to PDF on Android, it will run as Android. If it runs it will error and be safe,” he added.

Alfons reminded him not to worry about this message. Meanwhile, you need to be careful if someone asks you to install something on your device.

It also turned out that this request was not followed by turning off the ‘install from unknown apps’ setting. Alfons reminds you not to install anything and turn off these settings.

“What you have to be careful about is if you receive anything asking you to install and you haven’t turned off ‘install from unknown apps’,” explained Alfons.
