Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Some time ago, a confession went viral on the internet from a Google employee who served as an engineer. He admitted that he had a salary of 6 figures in US dollars or the equivalent of billions of rupiah.

This is not surprising, because the position of engineer at a technology giant is a ‘sexy’ position. However, the next statement caused a stir.

The Google employee said he only worked 1 hour a day in the morning. The rest of his time is used to develop the startup project he pioneered.

Other Google employees immediately responded to this confession via a meme on the ‘Memegen’ platform. He said he wanted to know the HR team’s response to the engineer’s statement.

The post was rewarded with more than 100 likes from fellow Google employees.

Google also responded to the viral post. Reported by CNBC International, Google spokesperson Courtenay Mencini said that Google employees can ask for flexible work schedules.

However, this permission will be reviewed by management, based on the role and performance of each employee.

“Like other companies, there are times when our employees can work 40 hours per week to complete deadlines, help teammates work, or serve our users,” he said, quoted from CNBC International, Monday (11/13/2023).

Companies can allow employees to work only 60-80% of their full-time schedule, or various other part-time variants, based on conditions and the blessing of their respective managers.

Google’s HR representative said that the average company employee works more than the usual 9-to-5 hours.

“The majority of Google employees have worked longer than 8 hours per day,” he said.
