Viral TikTok Shop Opens Again in November, This is What the Minister of Trade and Technology Says – 20 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – TikTok Shop is currently no longer operating in Indonesia. However, netizens have recently become excited because rumors have spread that the TikTok Shop will reopen on November 10, 2023.

Regarding this rumor, the Indonesian Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan alias Zulhas emphasized that his party would not prohibit traders who want to return to selling at the TikTok Shop.

This can be done as long as the seller is willing to obtain the permits required by the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag).

“If you want to apply for a permit, go ahead, we are not prohibiting it. We are not closing it, but we are organizing it,” explained Zulhas during his visit to Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, quoted Monday (16/10/2023).

“So, if he applies for an e-commerce permit, there will be rules. For example, food, drinks, medicines, powder, or so on must have a BPPOM permit. There must be rules here that must be inspected, if you sell food you must have a halal permit,” he added.

Apart from that, he also emphasized that his party does not prohibit buying and selling activities on online platforms. However, Zulhas said that he only arranged for physical shops that sell directly so that they are not less competitive with shops that sell online.

“But we invite offline shop owners to also sell online. Because the digital (era) is impossible to avoid. That’s why there are so many of them.” he stressed.

TikTok Shop itself has officially closed in Indonesia, effective Wednesday (4/10/2023) at 17.00 WIB. Traders and buyers can no longer carry out buying and selling transactions on the platform.

On its official website, TikTok Indonesia said the decision to revoke the TikTok Shop feature in Indonesia was made to comply with applicable regulations.

The government through Minister of Trade Regulation 31 of 2023 prohibits social media from playing a dual role as e-commerce. Merchants can only use TikTok to promote their sales, but no transactions may occur within the application.
